My Creative Process
At 18, while living and studying in Italy, I discovered the spark that would guide my life’s work—an enduring love of fashion, pattern, color, and craftsmanship. Almost three decades later, I remain immersed in that world, working primarily with silk and exploring its beauty through color with serigraphy (silk-screen printmaking).
My journey into printmaking began with a desire to transform plain white silk into unique works of art. This passion led me to London, where I learned the intricacies of printmaking on textiles.
Living and traveling across the U.S., Europe, Asia and Australasia, I became captivated by the diverse designs and imagery found in fabrics around the world. The timeless elegance of Japanese art, in particular, continues to shape my approach to design and composition.
What I love most about silk and silk-screening is the endless possibility—from infinite color combinations to the luxurious feel of the fabric itself. My work has taken me to some of the best art festivals in the country, where I’ve been honored with awards and constant inspiration. Each year, with every new collection, I strive to push the boundaries of silk-screening, color, and imagery to create clothing that is not only wearable but art.
Ultimately, this creative evolution is deeply intertwined with a commitment to the hands that create my canvas. For many years, I have partnered directly with a cottage industry of master weavers in Northeast India who hand-spin and hand-weave the spectacular pure raw silk I work on. By bringing these incredible textiles to art and textile lovers, global travelers, and individuals seeking a truly unique item of clothing, this partnership helps provide a sustainable livelihood to these rural artisans. Together, we are keeping a beautiful, generations-old handloom art form thriving and alive in a world of mass production. You can watch the silk weavers in action here.
I am deeply grateful every day to do the work I love, and my greatest hope is that you feel that same joy and love whenever you wear it.
